QUEEN’S PARK – Ontario PC Leader Patrick Brown and PC Energy Critic John Yakabuski issued the following statement on the Ontario Chamber of Commerce report, Empowering Ontario:

“The Ontario Chamber of Commerce has highlighted how Ontario’s rising electricity rates are crippling businesses in Ontario and placing a huge financial burden on seniors and families,” said PC Leader Patrick Brown.  “This is an issue impacting Ontarians province-wide, with the survey revealing that 81% of Ontarians are concerned that rising electricity prices will impact the health of the Ontario economy, and that these prices will impact their disposable income.  Ontarians are tired of Liberal inaction on hydro rates.”

PC Energy Critic John Yakabuski added, “Electricity prices are skyrocketing.  As a result of the Liberal’s bungled Long-Term Energy Plan, rates will continue to increase by 42% between 2013 and 2018. Ontarians are struggling, and the Wynne government’s poor decisions are making some people have to choose between turning on the heat and buying food.  Similarly, it is alarming that five per cent of businesses may have to close their doors due to electricity prices.  The Liberals can’t get anything right when it comes to energy policy. We should be focused on making it easier for families and business to thrive in Ontario, not harder.”
