Barrie MPP Ann Hoggarth must apologize for insensitive comments about struggling Ontario businesses

Insensitive comments from Barrie’s Liberal MPP dominated Question Period this morning. The Ontario PCs demanded an apology from MPP Ann Hoggarth who suggested small businesses, in particular one Barrie butcher shop, should close their doors if they can’t afford the reckless increase to the minimum wage. 

During a media avail with Ontario Labour Minister Kevin Flynn, Hoggarth said, “If you’re going to go out of business on the backs of your employees because you can’t afford to pay them this, perhaps you should reassess your business plan and whether you should be an employer.”

PCs call for OPP to investigate Gas Plant Scandal 2.0

OPG among companies underwater on $80M in ineligible expenses including scuba equipment

The Ontario PCs are calling on the OPP to investigate the $260 million in ineligible expenses claimed by power plants including the publicly owned Ontario Power Generation (OPG). $80 million remains unpaid and the Liberals have said they will not make any effort to recover the money for ratepayers.

Throughout the course of the evidenced-based independent audit, the Auditor General recommends a number of changes to government policy in Ontario. Wynne Liberals let wealthy insider executives expense raccoon traps and scuba gear on Ontario hydro bills

QUEEN’S PARK – In the wake of a scathing Auditor General’s report, this morning, the Ontario PCs called on the Wynne Liberals to reimburse Ontario ratepayers for nearly $80 million in inappropriate expenses reflected on Ontarians’ hydro bills.

“What were these companies using ratepayer’s money for? Wealthy executives and Liberal insiders were expensing raccoon traps and scuba gear,” said Ontario PC Treasury Board critic Lisa MacLeod during Question Period.

Ontario PC response to the 2017 Auditor General report

Statement from Ontario PC Treasury Board critic Lisa MacLeod on the release of the 2017 Auditor General Report:
