Wynne Liberal Candidate Skips By-election Debate on Health Care

SCARBOROUGH – Today, Ontario doctors concerned about the Liberal Government’s short-sighted cuts to health care hosted a town hall meeting in order to have an informed conversation with Scarborough-Rouge River voters. The candidates for all of the major parties were invited to attend, with only the Wynne Liberal candidate refusing the invitation.

“I’m not surprised that the Liberal candidate didn’t have the courage to show up. He would have had to defend the terrible Wynne Liberal record on the health care file,” said Ontario PC Candidate Raymond Cho. “Under the Liberal Government we have seen wait times grow out of control. He would have been asked to answer for the Wynne Liberal cuts to physiotherapy services for seniors, for firing 1,600 nurses in the last year and a half, and for cutting physician services budgets by $815-million.”

Throughout the course of the evening, Cho emphasized how the Liberal Government has ignored Scarborough’s health care needs.

“Scarborough hospitals have been pushed to a crisis point. Nurses in our hospitals have been fired. There are long-term care homes in Scarborough with wait times as high as five years! All of this after being represented by Liberal MPPs in a Liberal Government for 13 years.”

He explained how only an Ontario PC MPP can stand up against the Wynne Liberals callous cuts.

“As the Ontario PC candidate, I believe our community deserves a government that puts health care first. Our Leader Patrick Brown has been the only Party Leader standing up against the Wynne Liberal cuts to health care at Queen’s Park,” added Brown. “If elected as your MPP I will fight for Scarborough. And, I will hold the Wynne Liberals accountable against their cuts to health care.”
