Statement from Ontario PC Leader Patrick Brown on Hanukkah

The following is a statement from Ontario PC Leader Patrick Brown to mark the beginning of Hanukkah:

“Today, our Jewish friends across Ontario, Canada, and throughout the world celebrate the beginning of Hanukkah, the Festival of Lights.

“This joyous occasion celebrates the rededication of the Temple, and represents the triumph of light over darkness. This eight-day festival also commemorates the victory of the Jewish people, led by the Maccabees, over 2,000 years ago.

“This celebration is a time for family and friends to come together and observe time-honoured traditions, such as the lighting of the menorah, playing the dreidel, and sharing festive meals that include latkes and other delicious treats.

“Hanukkah is also the perfect time for the rest of us to learn about the deep symbolism of these traditions, and their importance to our Jewish friends and neighbours.

“To all who are celebrating across our province,  I wish you a Happy Hanukkah!”
