Statement from Ontario PC Leader Patrick Brown on the decision to axe the toll tax

“After months of advocacy from the Ontario PC Party on behalf of commuters in the GTA, the costly toll tax on the Gardiner and the DVP has finally been stopped. While the Wynne Liberals have never met a tax they didn’t like, the Ontario PC Party’s relentless opposition has led to a victory for affordability in the 416 and 905 area codes.

“Knowing that Ontarians could not afford to pay this toll tax, I was the first provincial party leader who stood up and opposed this costly plan, and I was proud to take this debate outside of the backrooms of the Premier’s office and onto the floor of the Legislature.

“On December 8th, the Legislature debated a motion that I introduced condemning the imposition of this toll on commuters. While the Ontario PC Party was proud to stand in the Legislature and support this motion, the Wynne Liberals didn’t have either the courage or the conviction to show up.

‎“The fact that it took this long for the Kathleen Wynne Liberals to come to their senses shows how out of touch they have become.

“Today was a big victory for commuters, but I remain concerned about the mismanagement of infrastructure dollars and the fact that life continues to get harder and more unaffordable under Kathleen Wynne’s Liberal Government. Taxes, fees, and hydro bills continue to skyrocket. I look forward to standing up and continuing to fight for taxpayers in the GTA and across the province.”
