Ontario PC MPP Todd Smith to Introduce Bill Ending Winter Disconnections

QUEEN’S PARK – Today, Ontario PC Energy Critic Todd Smith announced his plans to table a Private Member’s Bill on winter disconnections on Tuesday afternoon, the first day the Legislature sits again following the winter break. Smith will move that unanimous consent be granted and that the bill immediately pass into law.

“Minister Thibeault could immediately issue a directive ending these heartless winter disconnections, but instead he’s sitting by doing nothing, and letting families suffer in the cold. We had to take action,” said Smith.

The text of the bill will be taken verbatim from Schedule 10 of Bill 27, the Burden Reduction Act. MPP Smith will also be reaching out to members’ offices to find co-sponsors from the two other parties.

“It’s clear that Minister Glenn Thibeault and the Wynne Liberals are out of touch with the challenges Ontarians are facing every day, but hopefully they understand the importance of passing this bill immediately with unanimous consent. We can’t let anyone live in the cold without power any longer,” concluded Smith.
