Statement by PC Leader Patrick Brown on Estonian Independence Day

“Almost a century has passed since the people of Estonia established a sovereign and independent state.

“The path has not been an easy one as Estonians lived for many decades under Soviet rule.  I am proud that Canadians were welcoming to Estonians fleeing the horror of communism.  They came to Canada seeking freedom and a better life.  It is why Toronto is home to the largest community of Estonians in the world, outside of Estonia.

“The people-to-people ties continue to be vibrant, including the partnerships with Ontario’s cities and universities.

“Thank you to Canadians of Estonian heritage who continue to make positive contributions to our province.

“Head Iseseisvuspäeva!”
