Statement by PC Leader Patrick Brown on the Anniversary of the Election of Pope Francis

“Today marks four years since Jorge Mario Cardinal Bergoglio of Argentina was elected Pope of the Roman Catholic Church.

“Like his predecessors, Pope Francis has been a strong voice for the poor and destitute. His message of showing compassion and helping one’s neighbours continues to resonate in Ontario and across the world.

“He has used his position as leader of the world’s 1.2 billion Catholics (more than 12 million of which call Canada home) to advance the values that we share—freedom and the universal human rights of all people.

“Congratulations to Pope Francis on another year of faithful service!”
