Statement by Ontario PC Leader Patrick Brown Celebrating Commonwealth Day

“The second Monday in March of every year marks Commonwealth Day—a celebration of our history as a proud member of the Commonwealth of Nations.

“Some 52 countries throughout the world belong to this body.  Canada proudly embraces our roots with other members of the Commonwealth family.

“Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, Canada’s head of state and head of the Commonwealth, holds a special place in our hearts.  This year marked her sapphire jubilee—the first monarch to reach this milestone, a reign of 65 years!

“This is an opportune time for Ontarians to learn more about our history as Upper Canada, traditions and democratic institutions.  I join with citizens across the province and people around the world in marking Commonwealth Day.”
